Frequently Asked Questions

  • It depends! Each dog is worked straight through, from start to finish. This minimizes the stress your dog could experience while waiting to receive services while other dogs are getting worked on. On average, smaller dogs can take around an hour to complete, while larger dogs/profusely coated dogs will require more time. Each dog is unique in their needs and we do our best to tailor our services for your dog!

  • Tailored Tails requires all dogs to have their Rabies vaccine up to date in order to receive any services with us. New York state law requires all dogs 4 months and older to have their Rabies vaccine. While not required, it is strongly suggested all dogs keep their Distemper (DHPP/DHLPP) vaccine up to date as well. With a written statement from your veterinarian, due to health complications, certain dogs (ie; senior dogs) may be exempt from requiring the Rabies vaccine.

  • To maintain our schedule, we require at least 48 hours’ notice for cancellations. Cancellations with less than 48 hours’ notice will incur the charge of the full price of the originally booked service (unless we can fill the space with another dog). No-shows (ie; not showing up for your scheduled appointment with no prior notice given) will be charged 100% of the scheduled grooming cost. We reserve the right to require prepayment if deemed necessary.

  • We have a strict no aggressive dog policy. We will not accept dogs who have a bite history. If your dog shows unwarranted aggression at any point, you will be asked to pick up your dog immediately. If your dog is uncomfortable with certain grooming procedures, please inform us ahead of time before any services are completed. We are willing to work with dogs who, for example, may be scared of the dryer, and would love to show them that grooming isn’t so scary after all and can be a fun positive experience! However, we may recommend an alternative professional if we cannot safely continue the service. We prefer to work with as little restraint as possible on each dog to keep things stress free. For safety reasons, we may need to implement special handling procedures which may include the use of muzzles, e-collars (plastic head cones), body harnesses and/or hammocks, belly band supports, groomer’s helper device, etc. 

  • We kindly ask that you do not stay in the shop to watch your dog get groomed. While we take great care to ensure your dog is comfortable while in our care, having the owner present while being groomed can often stress the dog out and cause them to be distracted which could potentially result in injury or other dangerous scenarios. We ask this for the safety of everyone involved. Thank you for your understanding!

  • No, we go by prescheduled appointments only. This ensures each dog is given adequate care and attention while they’re with us and means we don’t have to rush through appointments to catch up on lost time that walk-in services can sometimes interrupt.   • In order to keep our services stress free, dogs must be picked up promptly after services are completed. An estimated time will be given at the time of booking to ensure clients have time dedicated in their day to drop off and pick up their dogs in a timely manner. You will receive a text message 15 minutes before your dog’s services are completed. A 15 minute grace period is allowed after your scheduled pick-up time. After the 15 minute grace period, a $15 fee will be charged. An additional $15 will be charged for every 15 minutes your dog remains in the salon.

  • We encourage all clients to text us at 845-242-4704, whether it be inquiring about scheduling an appointment, updates on your dog, general questions, etc… We always appreciate cute pics once in a while too! We send out automatic appointment reminders through texts. If you are unable to text and prefer a phone call, we can absolutely accommodate you, but please understand it might take longer for us to get back to you versus texting.
